Coming soon, a tower in Dubai taller than Burj Khalifa

burjkhalifaBurj Khalifa is 828 metres and costs US$1.5billion to build. It was completed in January 2010. That’s so tall that you can see a view as per the image. Petronas Twin Towers is only 452 metres. Read here: Petronas Twin Towers still tallest in the world*  Entrapment, a move starring Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones was shot in Petronas Twin Towers while Mission Impossible IV starring Tom Cruise was shot in Burj Khalifa. Entrapment may have been long forgotten but Mission Impossible IV may join it in the future because a tower taller than even Burj Khalifa would soon be built in Dubai. It will cost around $1 billion (RM3.97 billion).
The actual height would only be revealed when it’s completed before 2020. Yes, just 3.5 years away, maybe closer! Accordong to the owner, Emaar chairman Mohamed Alabbar said that his company would like to present the tower as a “gift to the city before 2020.” It will be designed by Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava Valls. It will have observation decks, in addition to 18 to 20 mixed-use floors that will host restaurants and a boutique hotel. The tower will be slender, evoking the image of a minaret, and will be anchored to the ground with sturdy cables.
Currently, Saudi Arabia’s Kingdom Holding is building a tower in Jeddah which when completed would be 1,001 metres. That’s over 1km. Sometimes I really do admire all these engineering marvels which seem impossible previously. Anyway, the more the merrier, right? At least which ever country we may drop by in the future, we still get to take a picture of the tallest tower in the world, even if it has been surpassed by another. Why are these countries striving to build the tallest towers? Look at all the races in the Olympics. Very few could remember the second fastest runner or swimmer. They would always remember the winner. I know, these countries would also tell you that the building is needed for hotels due to tourism, for more offices and more potential movie spots. Happy building more.
