Lockdown or no lockdown? It’s the compliance, really.

We have this from Selangor Menteri Besar about potential for full lockdown. Article in themalaysianreserve.com Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the state government agrees that such respite is vital to curb the Covid-19 spread, but it needs to be discussed in detail to minimise the impact on economy and people’s livelihoods. He suggested that if this happens, then the federal government must allow automatic moratorium for affected lives, direct aids to the bottom 40 (B40) group, effective online learning at home, clear standard operating procedures (SOPs) and guidelines, and mass testing in the community. Meanwhile our Finance Minister said this. Article in themalaysianreserve.com Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said that no other country in the world has completely shut down their economies in the face of second and third wave of Covid-19. Instead, the focus is on tightening their standard operating procedures (SOPs) and restricting social activities only. he said, “With the full closure of economic activities such as (under) Movement Control Order (MCO) 1.0, the number of unemployed people is expected to reach one million. It also will negatively be impacting the income of 2.8 million informal sector workers who are currently in a vulnerable state.” Do read his full comments in the article here: Article in themalaysianreserve.com

Frankly, it’s not lockdown or no lockdown

People still going out of their home for ‘sxxxxx’ reasons. People are still NOT wearing their masks and arguing that there were NO ONE nearby. People were still trying their best to go back to hometown despite warned not to do so. People who were sick still refuse to just stay home and thinks nothing will happen. People still prefer to believe viral news WITHOUT any valid source in their whatsapp and thus they prefer not to register for vaccinations, they think this is better than that (despite tens and hundreds of millions of people ALREADY got vaccinated with that vaccine which they think is inferior) and more.

The issue is COMPLIANCE to the SOPs. Of course some would argue that the enforcement should be better. I fully agree but if it is just enforcement alone… then we do not need to say anything else, just do a total lockdown and when a total lockdown happens, imagine what will happen to the many who needed to work in order to have salary in order to pay rental and for food? What happens when everyone follows SOPs even at working place? Look at the image below.

If we could do this well, we could continue to function. I do not support a total lockdown because it is very detrimental to the economy. Stay focused. We can do this if there is enough compliance and everyone registers for the vaccination too. Thank you.
