I feel very lucky, I really do.

I saw these photos maybe a year ago. Real shots of real living conditions for the poorest segments in Hong Kong. Due to the prices being way too high for many of these poorest, their living spaces become so small, so cramped. As time passes, these people who got left behind never did make it back in front and fade even further into the background. Perhaps even forgotten. It’s a tough situation because Hong Kong is really a very small place and the population is getting bigger. Statistically 1,104 sq km and total population of over 7 million people. Singapore is 660sq km and has a population of 5.3 million. Penang is 1,048 sq km and has a population of around 1.6 million.

I feel very sad for the people who has to stay in these type of conditions. I feel so lucky because I know that even if I were to buy a small flat for RM100,000 here in KL, it would still be bigger than the photos I saw and no matter what happens, within my generation I think I would not be facing this situation. However, if there are no proper housing safety net for the poorest population segment, this may just happen for real here in Malaysia. Alternatively, reverse the urbanisation, go home and accept an easier and more relaxing life instead. Not many can do it though. Okay, enough of reality. Let’s work for the betterment of ourselves and our next generation. Always remember, home is where the heart is. Thus, if you wish to have a healthy heart, find a good home for it.
