I watched move at cinema just before current lockdown

I was one of the few who visited the cinemas when it was allowed to reopen before the current lockdown and restrictions. To me, as long as the SOPs are adhered to and ONLY the vaccinated are allowed, I would go to the cinema again. However, I will personally report them if they lax on the checking whether the person is vaccinated or just trying their luck.

Cinemas may be opening

There is one latest news about cinemas reopening in October / November. In fact, the good news is that 98 percent of the employees for this cinema group; Golden Screen Cinemas are vaccinated. I am sure by October / November it will be 100%. Let’s not take any chances yeah.

Fully vaccinated does not guarantee non-infection but it protects against hospitalisation or the potential for ICU admission. The unvaccinated ones are a high risk. Not just to the person but to everyone else too. I am also watching to see what happens to the teachers who refused to be vaccinated. I do not wish for them to teach my kids too.

Article in themalaysianreserve.com PPB head of corporate affairs and GSC CEO Koh Mei Lee said, “Currently, we are only allowed to open when the country moves to Phase 4 and we hope that we can operate by October or late November, as 98% of our employees are fully vaccinated and ready to begin operations with stringent standard operating procedures.”

Koh said that GSC will be rebranding its business and undertake minimal changes to MBO cinemas acquired while keeping its major renovation for all of its 17 locations once the industry recovers. GSC acquired majority of cinema assets from the MBO chain in March 2021. Koh added, “During this period, we have gone online for our products such as food and beverages (F&B) and GSC’s merchandise to contribute to our business revenue.” Please do read the article in full here: Article in themalaysianreserve.com

Would you be watching a movie if the cinema reopens?

Yes, I would but this time, I do not intend to rush to the cinema so soon. Let’s just see if Covid-19 is under control and vaccinations for all states are at least 60 percent while Selangor and KL has reached over 80 percent first. What I do know is that I will have to live with Covid-19 just like how flu has become endemic and is not leaving us anytime soon.

Would I go the malls even if I am not going to the cinemas?

I have been to 1Utama a few times to buy food, groceries and even the telecommunications centre too. As long as all the SOPs are followed (by the way 1Utama is even more worried if they do not follow because once they have to close, it will be for 14 days.) so that they (1Utama) can continue to slowly attract more visitors. These days, there are few people except for the supermarkets. Those are still frequented but of course the number is way smaller than previously.

Take care.
