It’s not easy being a branded developer. Imagine trying to launch a new project with a new benchmark price per sf in an area not associated with high-end thus far. Press were invited. Advertisements everywhere. Special rebates for buyers who sign up on that few days are all ready. Caterer were told to ensure food and drinks are done right and it must not reflect ‘low class.’ Everyone came and something unexpected happened. Flies came in droves too. Yes, flies as in the flying little thing that all of us hate especially when we are eating our favourite meet goring mamak.
Perhaps it’s just not because of lacking in preparations. Perhaps it was just because of some new rubbish dumpsites nearby which were not cleared for the past few days. Perhaps the date was just not an auspicious one. Actually, I do not think anyone would have an answer. In fact I think someone would have ordered that something be done soonest so that these flies would at least be reduced tremendously the next day? As usual, fingers would now be pointed to whoever and whatever that could be blamed.
What can salvage this? Well, a branded developer helps tremendously. Especially one that everyone expects to do very well. A really good layout design helps tremendously. A really attractive overall package would also help. A team of sales people, all trained to sell consultatively instead of hard push may also help a lot. I wish this kind of situation does not happen to any launching events for all developers. After all, whether a buyer buys or not buying should not be decided by the number of flies on the edge of the glass of mocktail that the buyer is holding as he listens to the sales presentation. Plain unlucky or just insufficient preparation or even sometimes certain areas may just not be conducive enough yet, no answers from me.
