Press Release: IOI City Mall set to be the largest mall in Malaysia, with its Phase II opening in August 2022

Putrajaya – The most anticipated moment is finally here! IOI City Mall Phase II will be opening its doors for patronage on 25 August 2022. Strategically located at IOI Resort City, it enjoys a potential population catchment of 3.1 million from nearby townships in southern Klang Valley, namely Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, Kajang, Bangi, Sepang, Puchong and Seri Kembangan. Furthermore, it is approximately a 30-minute drive from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), making it an attractive retail and entertainment hub.

With the opening of Phase II, IOI City Mall will have a total of 14 anchor tenants with the addition of AEON, Proton, Nitori and MajuHome Concept joining existing tenants such as Lotus’s, Harvey Norman, Parkson, HomePro and GSC amongst others. There will be a total of more than 200 cafés and restaurants for gastronomy lovers to enjoy, featuring new additions such as Kenny Hills Coffee, Bife Charcoal Steakhouse and Din by Din Tai Fung.

Along with the addition of more than 300 retail outlets, IOI City Mall will have more than 700 retail outlets in total. This will bolster the value proposition of the mall as the most favourable shopping venue with sought-after brands such as Michael Kors, Hackett, Braun Buffel and Coach to name a few.

Dato’ Voon Tin Yow, CEO of IOI Properties Group (IOIPG) said, “IOI City Mall is set to become the largest shopping mall in Malaysia with an additional 1 million sq ft. of net lettable area (NLA), bringing the total NLA of IOI City Mall to 2.5 million sq ft. It will lead the way as the nation’s premier shopping and lifestyle destination.” Beyond retail, the mall presents the addition of IOI City Farm, an 18,000 sq ft. indoor edutainment exhibition space that provides family-friendly activities to learn about plants and animals. Designed with an ‘indoor farm’ concept to bring the outdoor experience indoors, the new edutainment exhibition consists of three zones for visitors to interact and observe more than 70 species of plants, small cute animals and fishes. The Plant zone, known as ‘Green Land’, displays aquaponics and carnivorous plants, whereas the Animal Zone, called ‘Little Rimba’, will be featuring adorable pets such as sugar gliders, hedgehogs, rabbits and fennec foxes. Meanwhile, the Aquatic Zone, known as ‘Fresh Water World’, will be showcasing large sturgeons and arapaima from the Amazon.

IOI City Mall Phase II will feature the new IOI Grand Exhibition and Convention Centre, a 40,000 sq ft. pillar-less hall with state-of-the art facilities with a capacity of 2,000 guests for wedding banquets and approximately 3,000 delegates for conferences. It will also feature IOI Sports Centre, the only world-class sports facility of its kind within the vicinity of Putrajaya. This new rooftop sports centre will boast a total of 15 badminton courts and two covered futsal arenas.

These new additions are expected to further elevate existing attractions at the mall. Such attractions comprise existing premier facilities such as Icescape Ice Rink, the biggest ice-skating rink in Malaysia recognised by the Malaysia Book of Records and District 21, a 52,000 sq ft. indoor atrium adventure theme park incorporating various attractions; many of which have never been seen in Asia.

IOI City Mall promotes sustainable initiatives such as providing more than 14,000 parking spaces equipped with automated License Plate Recognition (LPR) system. Besides encouraging contactless payment for a more hygienic experience, the system utilises ticketless parking to eliminate the issuance of printed parking tickets, which reduces paper waste and carbon ink printing.

In our efforts to instil the importance of environmental ethics through green efforts, solar panels have been installed on the rooftop of IOI City Mall in 2020, which has generated 8,533 MWh of electricity, equivalent to carbon emissions reduction of 5,922 tCO2 to date. Additionally, IOI City Mall is equipped with chilled water Thermal Energy Storage (TES) tanks with a combined capacity of 62,000 m³ which contributes to efficient use of electricity and thereby, helps to reduce carbon emissions.

These initiatives are in line with IOI Properties Group’s Sustainability Goal of Caring for the Environment, demonstrating our commitment to fight climate change and minimise the impact of our operations on the environment.
