Ferry between Johor and Singapore, think HK and Macau?

In my next trip to Hong Kong which is in September, I intend to travel to Macau via the ferry. Lots of nice places to visit there plus the food too. I think it’s really convenient and a great way to travel. My kids can also experience something new. The ferry is usually pretty full and I think it helps both sides in generating economic activities. I fly into Macau, I get to visit Hong Kong as well and vice-versa. So, how about the same thing happening here? Iskandar – Singapore, to be specific.
Reported in Straits Times (SG). Exciting news for Iskandar’s property market? Well judging from Facebook sharing, I think the interest is next to none. Nevertheless I think it’s a good suggestion. In fact any new connectivity between Johor and Singapore is always a good news. Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin has suggested that a ferry service be set up as another alternative mode of transportation for commuters travelling to and from Singapore. This should help to ease the traffic congestion at the Causeway and the Second Link which is currently a big issue for road users and commuters who travels between Malaysia and Singapore via Johor Baru.
Other details shared included the fact that the ferry terminal would offer services from Kong Kong in Pasir Gudang to Singapore’s Changi Ferry Terminal. Currently, the Changi Ferry Terminal offers ferry services to Tanjung Belungkor in Desaru in Johor and Batam, Indonesia. He said, “The proposed ferry terminal, which includes water taxi services, would enable those staying in the east of Johor Baru like those in Pasir Gudang and working in Singapore to cut down on travel time.”
First of all, this is only a proposal stage. Secondly, there are no further details which meant that it will be many more years before it can commence, even if this is a go-ahead. Thirdly, please do not buy Iskandar properties because of this news. There are many other better reasons for sure. I think in conclusion, the best bet remains that Rail Transit Service which is said to be potentially operational by 2020. That should be a game changer. HSR is 10 years away as well. It may help tremendously but for now, there are still lots of potential investments everywhere in Malaysia. Happy hoping.
