I love MRT news. MRT Line 2? Come on, that’s already an old news. MRT Line 1 is undergoing final tests for phase 1 to be operational by end 2016. The construction has even begun for MRT Line 2 SSP (Sungai Buloh – Serdang – Putrajaya). So, what’s new? MRT Line 3, also known as Circle MRT Line has some good news. MRT Corp will submit their study to the government by end 2016. It’s Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said, “We started the feasibility study early this year, and hopefully it will be completed by then and we will present it to the Land Public Transport Commission,”
In terms of the location and the stations of MRT 3, do google for the many unconfirmed news but as per Shahril, the stations would be in the central of Klang Valley as Circle MRT Line aims at connecting all existing lines to ease traffic congestion. The cost for this new line is still too early to be estimated because this would depend on the final alignment, the length, land price and the number of stations. I think lots of learnings from MRT Line 1 and MRT Line 2 could be applied and thus far, the MRT projects has shown that good project management is really possible.
All these public transportation really do help. When I first moved to Damansara Damai nearly 2 years ago, I needed an hour to reach the office if I were to leave my home at 730pm sharp. Today, I could leave at 730pm, drop my daughter at nursery in Sri Damansara and still arrive in office with the usual jams before 830pm. I think slightly fewer cars are on the roads especially those going into the city centre. I have ever more colleagues who are relying on LRTs today and everyone seems to have accepted the walking and waiting which is definitely better than ‘jamming’ on the road. Happy planning and building MRT Corp.
