Visit Langkawi? Over 60,000 in less than 30 days. Were you one of them?
When there is ONE island which is open to all travellers who are vaccinated in the whole country, surely there would be people who would want to enjoy the sun, the beach and the sights. This was what happened to the Langkawi Travel Bubble which started on 16th September. It has accepted over 60,000 tourists.
What will happen next would be more travellers because when people see that it looks okay to travel to Langkawi, more would be going. Let’s hope everything continues to be under control even if there are the sporadic cases. Of course as the inter-state travel is now reopened, there would be more choices for Malaysians too.
Article in thestar.com.my Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said a total of 60,504 tourists visited Langkawi, as of Oct 6, with an average of 16 flights a day to the island with two ferry trips daily from Kuala Kedah and Kuala Perlis, as well as two RORO (roll-on, roll-off) ferry services from Kuala Perlis.
He said, “Looking further ahead, Langkawi is scheduled to open up to international tourists around November or December 2021 depending on the government’s decision. I was made to understand by Malaysia Airlines that there is a high demand from the international tourism community for entry to Langkawi.” Please do read the full article here for more details. Travelling will be stopped again if we fail to adhere to SOPs.
Just need to keep reminding ourselves again. Whatever we start to enjoy may be taken away from us again if we do not adhere to SOPs. Please remember that in countries where vaccinations are high, some of them have seen a resurgence of COVID-19 new infection cases. Fortunately, with vaccinations, the chance of hospitalisation is lower and thus the potential for ICU admission and deaths too.
Stay safe everyone. Yes, I do think I will be in Langkawi again but may not be in 2021. I still prefer to drive to any destination versus taking a flight. Let’s decide later. My typical one staycation per month will be back very soon too. Haha.
