Yes, I personally believe the Rapid Transit System (RTS) will benefit both Johor and Singapore and the speed for its implementation needs to be faster. it is NOT just to ease the traffic between both sides yeah. Without the business part of the equation, I think we do not need to do so much just to ease the traffic… So, why do I think it is important?
Any new potential foreign investors (especially manufacturing related businesses) into Singapore will need to hire and it’s not so cost-efficient to just have 100% of all the staffs they need within Singapore. Or even having the plant within Singapore. It’s a competition versus the whole world. Let’s work together because competition is out there yeah. With a combination of having a HQ and manufacturing side by side (linked by the RTS), our story to potential FDIs will be stronger. Yes, even if we are speaking about competing within ASEAN versus much larger nations compared to around 40 million for both Malaysia and Singapore combined.
Article in theedgemarkets.com Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Ir Hasni Mohammad said that the works on the Rapid Transit System (RTS) project linking Johor Bahru and Singapore are expected to begin in November since all the requirements in the agreement have been met by both parties. With all these requirements being met, he said, “Thus when it is signed, within three months we will see the commencement of the project. Singapore’s election is over. The government before the election and the government after election remains the same even if there were minor hiccups in some loss of vote. I think the speed of how to quickly recover from COVID-19 will now be in focus. Let’s keep all these catalytic projects continuing to happen and with more connectivities, then there will be more economic activities too. Please keep giving us more good news year dear Johor government and hopefully all the Ministers who are in charge of this RTS too. Cheers.
