Investment is aimed at replacing our day jobs?

My ex-CEO, Mr. Mark Chang the founder of JobStreet.com (he sold JobStreet.com many years ago) told us that if we have a job which we love, then we no longer feel that we are working but we would instead love what we do every day. Briefly, we jump out of our beds to go to work everyday and not kept delaying getting out of bed to go to work everyday and then dread it when it comes to Sunday and we have to see our bosses’ face on Monday morning! Haha. True then and will still be true for a long time to come.

If we somehow do not like our job, then what happens? Many friends have told me that they hope that their investment income could replace their monthly salary. Once this happens, then they could resign and enjoy their lives while money from their investment income continues to flow into their bank account every month. Some say that property investment is the best way to replace our monthly income. I do not wish to doubt what is being said and in fact it does not even have to be property investment.

However, what I would like to add is this. The investment is needed NOT because we hate our jobs. The investment is needed because it will give us more flexibility in deciding what to do in the future. For example, if we had just sold a property at RM640,000 and we bought it for RM247,000 many years ago, then the extra RM400,000 or so will give us some flexibility to resign and think about what we intend to do next. We could even resign first instead of trying to go for interviews when we are still working full-time… RM400,000 could not last forever yeah but it will be a start to many positive things unless of course we spent all the money on a new car, maybe. Haha.

Assuming we could still hold on to our jobs because our bosses are still tolerable, then that investment will give us more assurance to speak our minds out instead of holding back every time our bosses say something which does not make any sense at all! Who knows, when we really give him a piece of our mind and it makes perfect sense to him, we may even be promoted and given higher responsibilities with higher pay? However, without some assurance from our investments, most of us would just swallow everything our bosses say… right?

There are actually many more reasons to invest but it is perfectly okay not to use it as a replacement to our day jobs too. How about just keep improving ourselves at work so that we continue to grow our monthly salary while at the same time growing our wealth via investments? Well, higher salary also meant more money to invest too, right? Happy working and may everyone be successful at work and in investments too.
