Quarantine-free travel between KLIA and Changi. (Yes, that’s Malaysia and Singapore)
I have just published this article earlier about International travel restrictions update for a few countries including Malaysia. Then, I read the announcement that I could soon be flying into Singapore if I wanted to. Yes, I am fully vaccinated with Astra-Zeneca Covid-19 vaccines since July. Yes, I was that first batch of Malaysians who managed to register in 5 minutes for 2 persons because everyone preferred to listen to rumours and refused to understand that majority of UK people were vaccinated with Astra-Zeneca even before Malaysia got their Astra-Zeneca doses.
Please do read the joint announcement as below.
Article in malaymail.com In a joint statement, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced that a Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) would be launched between Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Changi Airport on November 29. This means that both countries will allow quarantine-free travel between both countries if the individuals are already fully innoculated.
This quarantine-free travel will begin 29th November 2021. What will happen is that any traveller will just need to take Covid-19 tests versus serving mandatory quarantine like currently. As for travel across land links, this is still being discussed. Please do read the article in full here: Article in malaymail.com
If air is allowed, land is definitely on the way
I know, air-travel means the number is limited. Land travel means we are talking about hundreds of thousands of people everyday. So, definitely it will require a much longer discussion and the need for tighter SOPs. Yes, I do think that the number of travellers would quickly go back close to normal as soon as the agreement is reached between Malaysia and Singapore.
Happy anticipating.
