Let’s go Singapore soon. Not for everyone though.

Did you know that over 250,000 people travel between Singapore and Malaysia daily? Yea, that’s why we see a jam daily between us and Singapore. Did you know that there are 84 flights per day to and fro KL – Singapore daily before the COVID-19 arrived? (read here) Yes, we are extremely connected and that was why before COVID-19 arrived, I think I go to Singapore once per year or more if we count business trips as well. Now, if we want to go to Singapore or vice-versa, get ready to be quarantined for 14 days yeah. This may be about to change soon.

Article in nst.com.my Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said that Malaysia and Singapore have agreed to implement Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) and Periodic Commuting Arrangement (PCA) travel, allowing citizens from either side of the Johor Strait to cross the border for work or official purposes, beginning Aug 10.

He said in a joint statement with his Singaporean counterpart Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, “The RGL scheme will enable cross-border travels for essential business and official purposes between both countries. Eligible travellers will have to abide by prevailing Covid-19 prevention and public health measures mutually agreed upon by both countries, including undergoing polymerase chain reaction (PCR) swab tests.” For even more details on this new travelling permission, do read the Article in nst.com.my

This is definitely good news yeah. Now we can start to have more Singaporean visitors who will definitely spend money when they are here for good, accommodation and general expenses. Let’s ensure all the agreed SOPs are strictly adhered to. As much as I am all for the economy to continue to open, I am also wary that many countries have experienced thesecond wave of Covid-19 infections. My daughter will also be going to school beginning next month too. Stay safe everyone. Wearing a mask is NOT compulsory but let’s make it a MUST for safety of all Malaysians yeah.
