Ipoh will be that city with an integrated motorsport themed township. This mega project is known as T-city and has a gross development value of RM15.1 billion It will be in Gopeng and is jointly undertaken by Goodland Group Ltd, a company listed on the main board of the Singapore Stock Exchange and Citrine Capital Pte Ltd, on a 184.5ha site. (Now we get the idea why. If this was in any other bigger cities, the cost would be many times higher) This is what T-city is about, according to the Perak MB Datuk Sero Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, “T-City will embody the smart city concept and involves three development phases with five key components, including the motorsport facilities and an entertainment hub. The other components are an automotive centre, retail and food industry outlets, a hotel and serviced apartments, alongside condominiums.”
The first component coming up would be the first Formula 2 (F2) racing circuit in Malaysia which should be ready by June 2017. First phase would be completed in 10 years and cover 80.9ha. This is what Goodland Group executive chairman Tan Chee Beng said, “We are targeting to bring together automobile fans, motor racing enthusiasts, as well as car lovers from throughout the region under one roof.” Goodland Group is a 23-year-old property development company that has extensive holdings in the residential, commercial and industrial segments. Citrine Capital is a specialised investment company focused on motorsport themed commercial development. Full article in NST here.
Excited yet? I am excited for Ipoh even if I am not such a huge fan of F1, except for the Mercedes team since Petronas is involved. I will be awaiting for the first launch of the residential components. Gopeng has not been really growing in popularity for many years. Perhaps this is the catalyst it needs to make it the next hotspot in Perak or Ipoh. Last but not least would be more connectivities. Whether it’s road, rail or even AIR, this better be enhanced tremendously. Ipoh can take in more people, as long as not everyone is only interested in the Ipoh city centre to drink and eat lah. There’s so much more to exploreoutside the city centre too, including Gopeng. Looking forward to the days when flights between Ipoh – SG is on HOURLY basis. Now, that would be real connectivity. Happy following.
