IOI Properties Group’s Sustain Day themed “NIP it!” at the source”

Press Release: Creating Awareness for a Sustainable Future
IOI Properties Group Berhad (IOIPG) organised its first IOI Sustain Day themed “NIP it! at the source” on 15 July 2018 at IOI City Mall. As the theme suggests, the Sustainability campaign was aimed to create awareness on waste minimisation at the source. The sustainability campaign focused on four major areas comprising food waste, single-use plastic, clothes and e-waste. The campaign, which runs throughout the month of July at various IOIPG-owned locations, involves participation from all business units of IOIPG (including the malls, hotels and golf clubs), and in collaboration with various non-governmental organisations, social enterprises and businesses championing environmental initiatives aims at advocating circular economy and reducing waste amongst others.
Essentially, the Group hope to influence more people to lead a sustainable lifestyle by making changes in their daily lifestyle choices – reducing waste at its source instead of managing the waste created. IOIPG Executive Director, Lee Yoke Har said the campaign was aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and IOIPG aims to instill the spirit of sustainability in our employees and the local community through this campaign.“
As the theme of the event suggested, we would like to encourage the community to play an active role towards waste minimization. We have chosen to focus on four areas for this campaign namely on food waste, single-use plastic, clothes and e-waste in our campaign as it echoes IOIPG sustainability strategic initiatives of Urban Green and Mindset Change.,” Lee explained. The important elements of sustainability have always been embedded in IOIPG’s operations with the aim to achieve positive impacts to the environment, its business and the society which it operates in.
IOIPG General Manager of Corporate Communication and Sustainability, Kristine Ng added that “the event was organized with the environment in mind. Most of our decoration and props are reusable, recycled or upcycled. For instance, construction wooden pallets are upcycled into sit-ons. The rest of the activities such as generator bikes, DIY workshops and kampung games are ecoconscious and focused on zero-waste,” Ng added. On the IOI Sustain Day, the public participated in a series of games and activities ie SDG Spin to Win contest, SDG Board Game as well as other activities that encourage sharing of ideas on sustainable living.
Several partners of the event organised workshops and presentations related to simple sustainable efforts that can be adopted by individuals and households. Many premium prizes were also up for grabs via the Lucky Draw and Instagram photo contest, which included hotel stays sponsored by Putrajaya Marriott Hotel, Four Points by Sheraton Puchong, Palm Garden Hotel; as well as other vouchers sponsored by Palm Garden Golf Club, Le Meridien Putrajaya, District 21 and Icescape.
