Aeropolis KLIA, major thrusts and plans, RM7 billion investments

I wrote about this so long ago that I have forgotten all about it. Read here:  Airport within a mall, Mitsuit Outlet and Aeropolis  I have been to the Mitsui Outlet twice since then. Want to know my thoughts? Read Here. I think the concept is good if it could happen as envisioned; an Aeropolis or also known as Airport City. According to some media reports, Airport operator Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has mapped out big plans to develop 1,000 acres of landbank near its airports. Within 5 years, it may generate RM7billion in investments.
It will be developed through three major clusters – air cargo and logistics (200 acres); business and aviation parks (400 acres); as well as meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) and leisure (400 acres). Some of the identified key projects include a theme park, hotel, KLIA Aerotech Park, KLIA Cargo and Logistics Park and Regional Transshipment Centre.” Where funding is concerned, it is possible for joint-ventures like the Mitsui Outlet Park. (Seriously, it’s better for joint ventures so that it does not drain MAHB’s resources which should be used to focus on its main business, as an airport operator)
Oh yeah, a more detailed plan would be announced on 23 May. Perhaps MAHB is trying to tie up some loose ends, especially with regards to their potential JV partners. I also do not hope that they do it by themselves because their expertise for real estate development is likely to be limited. Happy following.
