People’s Housing Projects (PPR) should be for rent and not for sale

People’s Housing Projects (PPR) should be for rent and not for sale

Property built by the government for the people should continue to be for the people

People’s Housing Projects (PPR) is built to provide homes to Malaysians who could not afford their own home as yet. Thus, all these PPR homes must be for the benefit of poor Malaysians and not to enrich anyone who managed to get a unit and is then sub-letting the unit out to foreigners and gaining profits from it while many other needy Malaysians are having to wait for a unit for years.

Article in nst.com.my The National House Buyers Association (HBA) honorary secretary-general Datuk Chang Kim Loong said, the PPR units erected are simply temporary living quarters for those looking to buy their own homes in the future.

“They should only be rented out by the relevant agencies,” he said.

He added, “The PPR residents should not regard the flats as their permanent homes but merely temporary abodes to shelter their families and have roofs over their heads while they endeavour to look for permanent homes.”

He said those who flout the rules by subletting their units for obvious gains should be evicted and enforcement should be meted without delay.

“They act like landlords and sublet rooms to foreigners and singles who migrate from villages to cities. These have been going on for years but it seems enforcement action is slow, even sometimes thwarted by interference.

“It is a betrayal of the purpose of building such PPR housing in the first place, which is to provide a roof for the poor and should not be used by rent-seekers for self-profiteering,” he said. Do read the full article here: Article in nst.com.my

We need stricter control yeah. (This one is worth learning from the neighbour down south)

Enforcement of policies, of the things we said ‘should be done this way’ has always been lacking. If the PPR homes are for Malaysians, then anyone staying in those units other than Malaysians should already be a big warning sign that something is not right. PPR units are for Malaysians who need transit homes, remember? There should not be foreigners staying within these PPR developments yeah. Period.

Choosing and ensuring the right tenant is given the opportunity is another thing we MUST LEARN from whichever country which is doing it well. It’s really not that hard to check the income details of the applicants yeah. Not just the husband or the wife who’s not working yeah. The whole household income so that only the ones most in need are given priority. Come on, housing is a basic right and the authorities must do their job.

Please do build more and help more Malaysians. Only Malaysians if we are talking about PPR. The title says it all. It’s for the People…

This is the official website for KPKT yeah. https://teduh.kpkt.gov.my/scheme/ppr_dimiliki
