When your home market is cooling down, it’s wise to venture out into hotter areas. UEM Sunrise is doing this. It will be building a A$770 million (RM2.4 Billion) mixed-use development called ‘Aurora’ in Melbourne’s CBD. At 92-storey, the development will be the tallest in the Melbourne CBD and it will have an underground connection to the rail network, the Melbourne Central Station. It is also near to the CBD’s retail selections such as the Melbourne Central Shopping Centre, Emporium, Myer, David Jones, GPO and the Bourke Street Mall. Besides that, RMIT University is also just right outside its doorstep.
According to UEM Sunrise managing director/chief executive officer Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, this maiden project is in an enviable location. Out of the 941 units in the development, 95 percent have been sold. The project will take four years to complete. The building would take the shape of a budding hibiscus and is brought to life by a simple geometric modularisation where elegant tapering curves revolve seamlessly through axial symmetry to reveal a flower in bloom. I believe the final shape should be much easier to understand than its description. Haha. The design is by architecture firm Elenberg Fraser. Construction would be done by Prebuilt, a tier-one construction company.
I think everyone would note that UEM Sunrise’s huge exposure (landbank) in Iskandar meant that current times are especially slow for them. Thus far, developers building in overseas including Australia or even London has always been showing success. I believe many of these are fellow Malaysians who are buying because of familiarity with the developer as well as an investment for their children’s future education there. Please google Australian 108 building of Melbourne Southbank. It is 388m high of 108 storey in Melbourne, proclaim to be the highest in the Southern Hemisphere, let alone Melbourne CBD.

Yea, noted. Actually it’s just a clever technicality by uem. Tallest in Melbourne cbd is still true. Just like so many newer towers are taller than twin towers but petronas twin towers is still tallest twin towers in the world.
