Press Release: SUNWAY DELIVERS RAYA CHEER TO MORE THAN 9,000 BENEFICIARIES AMIDST CMCO

Sunway has kick-started its month-long #SunwayforGood Raya Cheer programme just ahead of the festive season to bring about much needed cheer to various communities in need. The programme is expected to reach out to more than 9,000 beneficiaries nationwide this year.

Taking a new approach, Sunway extends its Raya Cheer to reach out to frontline healthcare workers and essential service staff in acknowledgement of their tireless service to the nation during the Movement Control Order period, as well as prison inmates.

Sunway Group Deputy Executive Chairman, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Razman M. Hashim said, “While the MCO has been difficult for most Malaysians, invariably there are communities who are more adversely impacted by the pandemic than the others. It is more critical than ever before for us to shore up our support and deliver the necessary aid to them, not forgetting the frontline workers as well for their selfless contribution.”

“Sunway’s corporate responsibility, largely encapsulated in the #SunwayforGood initiatives, is our pledge to co-create a future with no one left behind in our communities. By working together, we can uplift the lives of those who need help the most; so we can build a sustainable, progressive nation that leaves no one behind,” he added.

Bubur Lambuk Distribution

The first initiative will see Sunway deliver a total of 6,500 packets of specially prepared bubur lambuk to the frontline workers, essential service staff, and B40 families nationwide starting 1 May. The nutritious bubur lambuk is prepared by Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa, Sunway Putra Hotel, Sunway Velocity Hotel, Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya and Sunway Hotel Georgetown’s master chefs.

Sunway’s volunteers and partner, a not-for-profit organisation, Adab Youth Garage (AYG) will deliver 4,500 packets of bubur lambuk to the frontline workers at Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Serdang and Hospital Sungai Buloh as well as essential service staff and B40 families around the Klang Valley every Friday from 1 May to 22 May. Another 2,000 packets of bubur lambuk will be distributed by the Penang State Assembly for Seberang Jaya to selected B40 families.

Raya Luncheon for Prison Inmates

The second #SunwayforGood Raya Cheer initiative will see a special Hari Raya luncheon on 16 June, hosted by Sunway for the community of 1,700 in the Kajang Women’s Prison. Besides the luncheon, the community will also receive packets of cookies and toiletry hampers, which are also sold by the prison inmates.

Kajang Women’s Prison Director, PKK Lim Kim Mooi said, “The inmate’s small businesses such as production of batik and women’s clothes, floor mats and pastries as well as beauty parlour and spa room services has been affected by the MCO. The Hari Raya luncheon comes at the right time to lift up their spirits and also to support our inmate entrepreneurs during this festive period.”

Selangor Youth Community (SAY Community) will deliver Sunway’s cheerful gifts to 170 caretakers and children across four orphanages. The caretakers and children of Pusat Jagaaan Nur Barakah, Pusat Jagaan Baitus Sofwah, Pusat Pengurusan Al-Firdaus and Pertubuhan Anak Yatim Berkat Kasih (House of Love) will receive new clothes, groceries, “duit raya”, vitamin C packs, sanitisers and specially baked cookies courtesy of Sunway Malls, Sunway Property and Sunway Resort Hotel & Spa.

Sunway’s aid comes at a crucial time, and will make the celebrations a meaningful one for the children during these challenging times. We would like to thank Sunway for their contributions and commitment in helping the underserved communities.”
